about

16 years since the release of "BEATS!!!! Vol.1" Markey Funk digs deep into his vaults to unleash further chapters in the series.

As much as "(forgot the word)" is considered Markey's first solo release, it's far from being his earliest music ever recorded. The road to this album is paved by years of beatmaking and working with various MC's on the oft-overlooked, but always cutting-edge Jerusalem hip-hop scene. Cutting his teeth with hardcore rap group BangLaDeath (Vulkan, 4ak, Masso and MC Klin), he soon moved on to collaborations with Rocky B., Rebel Sun, Boiler, Sagol 59, Hassid, and many others, constantly expanding his sound and techniques. It's between these sessions that "(forgot the word)" was taking shape. Ironically, shortly after the album was completed, a major hard-drive crash forced Markey to cease all his old projects and embark on a new journey, which ultimately led him to Group Modular, "Instinct" and Delights. Rap, however, as well as dozens of raw beats, was left behind for good.

The new volumes of "BEATS!!!!" provide a look behind the scenes at one artist's formative years. Each chapter gives a different angle on Markey's creative world, as well as adds the long-missing context within his discography, spanning now two decades.

"BEATS!!!! Vol. 2" compiles Markey Funk's instrumentals for BangLaDeath with some of them dating as far back as 2001. Inspired by DJ Shadow and Blackalicious, Markey chose to work with samples only, often utilizing classic breaks in a refreshing way. The experience of working with BLD also set the approach for his solo material, which would later make the core of "(forgot the word)".
